Membership Guidelines

Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo Association Inc

(Hereinafter named PLS&R)

Membership Guidelines

General Membership

Any person 16 years of age and older interested in the scientific and educational purpose of encouraging and fostering the improvement of breeding and raising of better livestock and farm products, as well as interested in encouraging and mentoring youth, may become a member of this charitable Association upon application acceptance and approval by the Association. The dues and conditions of membership, and the classifications of membership, shall be set by the Board of Directors, as determined by the Board. A member must also meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Demonstrates leadership skills
  • Abides by the Policies, Procedures, and By-Laws of the Association
  • Will not use PLS&R for personal political endorsements
  • PLS&R will offer membership to the JRC Committee for High School Students that are in their Freshman (9th Grade), Sophomore (10th Grade), Junior (11th Grade), or Senior (12th Grade) year.
Definitions

Executive Board: A Group of elected Board Members/Directors volunteering his/her time serving as an Officer of the Board of Directors for the association responsible for the day to day business of the association as specified in the PLS&R Bylaws.

Board Member/Director: A member elected to the and volunteering his/her time serving as a Board Member. The board of directors is the governing body of the association. Individuals who sit on the board are responsible for overseeing the association’s activities. Board members meet periodically to discuss and vote on the affairs of the organization.

Committeemen: Any Member in good standing actively volunteering on a PLS&R Committee.

Life Member: Any person(s) in good standing which have paid the required dues for a Life Member, and whose application for membership has been accepted by the Association, shall be considered a Life Member without further dues.

Annual Member: Any person(s) in good standing which have paid the required dues for an Annual Member, and whose application for membership has been accepted by the Association, shall be considered an Annual Member. Annual Membership dues must be paid every year.

Past Presidents: A member who shall have served at least two years as a President, shall be designated as a Past President. This does not disqualify a member for service in any other capacity for which (s)he may be eligible. A Past President will remain his/her Board of Directors position as they continue to volunteer with the association if they are voted in to do so at the annual meetings of membership.

Lifetime Vice Presidents: A member who shall have served at least two years as a Vice President, shall be designated as a Lifetime Vice President. This does not disqualify a member for service in any other capacity for which (s)he may be eligible. A Lifetime Vice President will remain in his/her Board of Directors position as they continue to volunteer with the association if they are voted in to do so at the annual meetings of membership.

Honorary Life Directors: All members who shall have served the Association with distinction, and who shall have been nominated to be an Honorary Life Director by the Nominating Committee and confirmed by a majority vote of the Directors present and eligible to vote at the meeting of the Board of Directors, may be an Honorary Life Director. An Honorary Life Director shall automatically accrue all the rights and privileges of a Life Member.

Retired Directors: A Director who has left the Association because of a health or business reasons, and who has served at least five (5) years as a Director, may be designated, by majority vote of the Board of Directors, as a Retired Director.

Honorary Member: Honorary members are those who have rendered some special service to this charitable Association or have encouraged and fostered the improvement of breeding and raising of better livestock and farm products, and who, in recognition of such service, have been named by the Board of Directors as an Honorary Member.

Lifetime Committeemen: Two (2) committeemen may be considered annually, for approval by the Executive Board and the Board of Directors, to be designated as a Lifetime Committeeman. To be eligible for consideration, the committeeman must have completed an application and met the following minimum requirements:
1. has served no less than fifteen (15) years as a committeeman, and such service plus age equals at least sixty-five (65) years
2. has demonstrated leadership qualities 
3. abides by the rules, regulations, and By Laws of the Association 
4. complies with all policy and procedures of the Association

Ex Officio Member: Ex Officio members are those who are members of the Association, by reason of the office they hold. An Ex Officio member may be an elected official or another person from the public, educational, industrial or business sector, nominated by the Nominating Committee and confirmed by the Board of Directors. An Ex Officio member shall pay no dues.

Active Member: Any person who pays or has paid the required dues for their membership status, which is actively volunteering his/her time working on a PLS&R committee, and whose application for membership has been accepted by the Association will be considered an “Active Member”.

Inactive Member: Any person(s) not actively volunteering his/her time working on a PLS&R Committee. A life member can although he/she owes no dues can be considered an inactive member.

Membership Benefits/Privileges

Executive Board: An Executive Board Member which have paid the required dues and have completed the Membership Application and Agreement to Indemnify and Hold Harmless forms will be considered an “Active Member” and be entitled to one vote in the annual meetings of Membership, one vote in all affairs of the Board of Director meetings, as well as one vote in all the affairs of the Executive Board meetings.

a) An Executive Board Member will receive credentials that will allow him/her and three guests into the PLS&R Grounds for our Annual BBQ Cook Off, Rodeo, and Concerts. The credentials will not grant anyone access to the arena floor during concerts nor access to any other PLS&R event that requires a badge, ticket, or pass for entry.
b) On sellout nights for the rodeo, a badge enables all membership to standing room only.

Board of Directors: A Board Member which have paid the required dues and have completed the Membership Application and Agreement to Indemnify and Hold Harmless forms will be considered an “Active Member” and be entitled to one vote in the annual meetings of Membership, and one vote in in all affairs of the Board of Director meetings.
a) A Board Member will receive credentials that will allow him/her and two guests into the PLS&R Grounds for our Annual BBQ Cook Off, Rodeo, and Concerts. The credentials will not grant anyone access to the arena floor during concerts nor access to any other PLS&R event that requires a badge, ticket, or pass for entry.
b) On sellout nights for the rodeo, a badge enables all membership to standing room only.

Active Committeemen: An Active Committeemen who have paid such dues and have completed the Membership Application and Agreement to Indemnify and Hold Harmless forms will be entitled to one vote in the annual meetings of Membership.

a) Active Committeemen will receive credentials that will allow him/her and one guest into the PLS&R Grounds for our Annual BBQ Cook Off, Rodeo, and Concerts. The credentials will not grant anyone access to the arena floor during concerts nor access to any other PLS&R event that requires a badge, ticket, or pass for entry.
b) On sellout nights for the rodeo, a badge enables all membership to standing room only.
Specialty Membership & Benefits/Privileges

Honorary Member: An Honorary Member who has completed the Membership Application and Agreement to Indemnify and Hold Harmless forms will be entitled to one vote in the annual meetings of Membership. a) An Honorary Member will receive credentials which will give him/her access to the PLS&R Grounds for our Annual BBQ Cook Off, Rodeo, and Concerts. b) If the event/performance has not been sold out, then general admission seating will be permitted.

Ex Officio Board of Directors Member: An Ex Officio Member who has completed the Membership Application and Agreement to Indemnify and Hold Harmless forms will receive the privileges below but will not have a vote in the Board Meetings nor a vote in the annual membership meeting.

a) An Ex Officio Member will receive credentials which will give him/her access to the PLS&R Grounds for our Annual BBQ Cook Off, Rodeo, and Concerts.
b) If the event/performance has not been sold out, then general admission seating will be permitted.

Past Presidents: A Past President who has completed the Membership Application and Agreement to Indemnify and Hold Harmless forms will be entitled to any benefits/privileges of the Membership/Committeeman position they hold as an active volunteer. An inactive Past President will receive the benefits and privileges of a Retired Director.

Lifetime Vice Presidents: A Lifetime President who has completed the Membership Application and Agreement to Indemnify and Hold Harmless forms will be entitled to any benefits/privileges of the Membership/Committeeman position they hold as an active volunteer. An inactive Lifetime Vice President will receive the benefits and privileges of a Retired Director.

Honorary Life Directors: An Honorary Director who has completed the Membership Application and Agreement to Indemnify and Hold Harmless forms will be entitled to any benefits/privileges of the Membership/Committeeman position they hold as an active volunteer. An inactive Honorary Life Director will receive the benefits and privileges of a Retired Director.

Retired Directors: A Retired Director who has completed the Membership Application and Agreement to Indemnify and Hold Harmless forms will be entitled to any benefits/privileges below. A retired Director will not have a vote in the Board of Directors meetings.

a) A Retired Director will receive credentials that will allow him/her into the PLS&R Grounds for our Annual BBQ Cook Off, Rodeo, and Concerts. The credentials will not grant anyone access to the arena floor during concerts nor access to any other PLS&R event that requires a badge, ticket, or pass for entry.
b) On sellout nights for the rodeo, a badge enables all membership to standing room only.

Lifetime Committeemen: A Lifetime Committeemen which have completed the Membership Application and Agreement to Indemnify and Hold Harmless forms will be entitled to one vote in the annual meetings of Membership and will be entitled to the benefits below.

a) Active Lifetime Committeemen will receive credentials that will allow him/her as well as a guest or guests into the PLS&R Grounds for our Annual BBQ Cook Off, Rodeo, and Concerts. The number of guest badges will be relative to their level of membership. The credentials will not grant anyone access to the arena floor during concerts nor access to any other PLS&R event that requires a badge, ticket, or pass for entry.
b) On sellout nights for the rodeo, a badge enables all membership to standing room only.

POLICIES

1. To qualify for credentials for entry into our grounds a member:
a. must have completed the Membership Application and Agreement to Indemnify and Hold Harmless forms 
b. must have paid their annual dues or be a lifetime member whose membership has been accepted by the association 
c. must be actively volunteering his/her time on a PLS&R committee, or have served in a capacity that qualifies them to receive these credentials.

2. Members with credentials shall adhere to all Policies and Procedures of PLS&R. PLS&R Policy and Procedures can be viewed in the PLS&R office and on the PLS&R website.

3. The conduct of members and their guests should always be positive and consistent with the goals, purposes, character and integrity of PLS&R.

4. Any lost, stolen or misplaced credentials can be replaced for a charge of $20.00 each.

5. Credentials are non-transferable. The act of loaning, giving or selling credentials to others is strictly prohibited. Any individual found attempting to duplicate credentials or similar items will be permanently expelled from the show.

6. Membership credentials denoting “under age” shall be issued to all members under the age of twentyone. Members who provide false identification to obtain credentials will be denied membership. Underage credentials will not be allowed in the Silver Spur Club. Members under twenty-one will not be able to work on committees involving alcoholic beverages.

7. Credentials do not permit access onto the Arena Floor during Concerts nor any other PLS&R event where tickets or passes are required for entry.

NOTE:

PLS&R Membership Credentials will not permit entry into any other event associated with The Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo that requires a paid entry or membership. Such events are: The Silver Spur Club, Kick-Off Dance, Bowling Tournament, Thunder Run & etc.
